Vanilla is actually a naturally occurring plant found in the central part of North America, but it is most commonly found in the southwestern part of that continent. Vanilla is a member of the Melaleuca family and is a member of the Pimpinellaceae or Melaleuca group. These plants belong to the order Syzygium, which is the family of flowering plants. This includes rose, jasmine, and other flowers that produce a light scent similar to that of vanilla.
